Seattle City Light (SCL) continues to project adequate resources to meet load increases associated with the heat wave. Capacity continues to be available at community centers as well as day centers and emergency shelters for individuals experiencing homelessness. This weekend, libraries and water activities saw the highest use by residents and families. All locations and hours of operation vary. ![]() The City of Seattle and partners have opened 36 “cooling centers” including senior centers (6), community centers (3), libraries (13), day/hygiene centers (10) and emergency shelter for people experiencing homelessness (2) in addition to 30 beaches, pools, sprayparks, and wading pools. Seattle (June 28, 2021) – With temperatures expected to surpass Seattle’s record high today and reach 107 degrees, the City of Seattle is reporting available capacity at cooling centers including a new cooling center at Magnuson Park and Amazon Meeting Center which is serving as an official cooling center with a capacity of 1,000 individuals.
